What this document is
Discovery is the part of a case where each side has to show its evidence. These are the written questions and document requests you send. You ask for the original signed agreement, the full account history, and proof that this company legally owns your debt.
You probably need this if
- Your Answer is filed and the case is moving
- No trial date has arrived yet
- You want to see whether they can actually prove the debt is yours
- You suspect the amount is wrong, or that the debt is not yours at all
Why it matters
Debts get sold from company to company, often several times, and the paperwork usually does not travel with them. Many collectors cannot produce a signed agreement or a clean record of ownership. When they cannot, their case is in serious trouble, and this is how you find out.
What the builder does
- Builds the written questions and the document requests together
- Asks for the specific proof that debt buyers most often cannot produce
- Explains what a complete answer looks like, so you can tell when theirs is not
- Formats it properly and tells you how to serve it on their lawyer
What it will not do
It cannot make them answer honestly. If they ignore it or answer poorly, the next step is asking the court to step in, which is a separate filing.
